Why We Use CertifID
Real estate transactions involve sensitive personal information and significant transfers of money, making them a frequent target for identity theft, wire fraud, and seller impersonation. Fraudulent emails and text messages can appear legitimate, sometimes using familiar names, property details, and company logos.
To help protect our clients and the integrity of each closing, The Cloud Law Firm uses CertifID to verify identities and securely exchange sensitive banking information.
Identity Verification
CertifID helps us confirm that the individuals involved in a real estate transaction are who they claim to be. Clients may receive an email and text message asking them to photograph a government-issued ID and take a selfie. CertifID then validates the identification and confirms that it matches the person completing the verification.
This additional step helps reduce the risk of identity theft, seller impersonation, and other forms of real estate fraud.

Secure Transfer of Funds
CertifID also provides a secure process for exchanging wiring instructions and banking information. This helps reduce the risk of criminals using fraudulent emails or messages to redirect closing funds.
Clients may receive an email and text message from CertifID with instructions for securely receiving wiring information or providing the banking information needed for closing proceeds.
The Cloud Law Firm will not send or change wiring instructions through an ordinary email. If you receive unexpected or revised wiring instructions, stop and contact our office before sending funds.
Helping Protect Your Closing
CertifID is one of the tools we use to add an additional layer of security to North Carolina and South Carolina real estate closings. No system can eliminate every risk, so clients should carefully review all communications and immediately contact our office if anything appears unusual.
